The bottom line

Your photos and videos go directly to your Google Drive. Not ours. We have no servers. We never see your files. If the app crashes, it tells us that — nothing else.

What we access

Your WhatsApp media — Space Saver reads your WhatsApp photos and videos to move them to your own Google Drive. We never copy, store, or transmit them to any server of ours.

Your Google Account — we use Google Sign-In so you can connect your Drive. Your credentials are handled entirely by Google. We only receive a token that lets the app write to your Drive on your behalf.

Your Drive — we use the drive.file scope. This is the most restrictive Drive permission available: we can only access files that Space Saver itself created. We cannot browse or read anything else in your Drive.

App configuration — we use the drive.appdata scope to store a small configuration file in a hidden app folder in your Drive. This file is only accessible to Space Saver and is never visible to you or anyone else in your Drive file list.

Crash reporting

If Space Saver crashes, it reports that to Firebase Crashlytics — Google's standard crash-reporting tool for Android, the same one most apps on your phone already use. That report includes what broke and where, basic technical details about your phone, and a random ID for this install of the app. It never includes your files, your WhatsApp media, or anything from your Drive. We use it for one thing: finding and fixing bugs.

Support diagnostics

The FAQ screen has a support section. You type a message, decide whether the technical report goes with it, and tap "Email us" — your own mail app opens with everything filled in, addressed to [email protected], and you press send. The app never sends anything by itself. The subject line carries the app version, your Android version and your phone model, nothing else.

The technical report goes along with your message unless you turn it off before sending. When it comes along, two files are attached:

A technical log (.txt) — your app settings, which permissions are granted or denied, whether your phone or your Drive is full, which buttons you tapped in the app, errors and warnings, and how a restore went. It also lists the WhatsApp folders involved and the titles WhatsApp gives your photos and videos — titles like IMG-20260831-WA0012.jpg: a date and a number. Without them we usually can't see why something went wrong. The log is written for one job: to explain one problem on one phone. It is kept on your phone and moves only when you send it.
A list of exactly those files (.csv) — the title WhatsApp gave the file, like IMG-20260831-WA0012.jpg: a date and a number. Plus type, size, status, dates, and which WhatsApp app it came from. The internal addresses of the files and the share link are deliberately left out.

You write to us from your own mail app, so of course we see your email address — that's how we reply to you. What the app takes out of the report itself is the internal file references, the share links, and the full file fingerprints, which are shortened to eight characters.

The log lives only on your phone, in app-private storage, outside Android's own backup and outside a transfer to a new phone. It stays around a megabyte — a few more while recording is on — and you can erase the report from the support section whenever you want. Recording is optional: it runs for an hour and then stops on its own.

We don't encrypt what your mail app sends. It's your mail app and your mail provider doing the sending, exactly as with any other email you write, and we have no say over that. Sending the report is your choice, every time.

What we don't do

Outside of the crash reports above, the app does not collect your personal data
We do not have a backend server or database of our own — the app never sends your media anywhere but your own Drive. Email is the one exception: what you write to [email protected], diagnostics included, arrives in an ordinary mailbox we manage and read, and we clear it when you ask
We do not sell, share, or analyze your media
We do not build profiles, and we never ask for your location
We do not store your media anywhere outside your own device and your own Drive

How to remove your data

Uninstall the app — removes all local data and tokens from your device
Remove Drive access via myaccount.google.com → Security → Third-party apps
Optionally delete the app's folder in your Google Drive manually

Google API Disclosure & Limited Use Policy

The SS4WA (Space Saver for WhatsApp) application (the "App") uses Google OAuth and the Google Drive API to allow users to securely move and store their WhatsApp media files directly into their own personal Google Drive storage.

Data Access & Privacy — The App only accesses the specific folders and files necessary to perform the space-saving functions (via the drive.file and drive.appdata scopes). All data transfers occur directly between the user's mobile device and their personal Google Drive account. We do not host, store, collect, or monitor any of your personal files, photos, or media on any external or developer-owned servers.

Limited Use Compliance — The App's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

No Data Sharing — We do not share, sell, or transfer any data obtained through the Google APIs to third parties, advertising networks, or data brokers.

If you email us

Outside of the crash reports above, the app collects nothing about you, but email is different. There is no signup form on this site — the "notify me" button opens your own mail app. If you write to us, your address and your message arrive in an ordinary mailbox that we read.

We use it only to reply to you, and to let you know when the app launches if that is what you asked for
We do not add you to any other list, and we do not pass your address to anyone else
There is no mailing platform or third-party processor involved — it is a mailbox
Ask us to delete your message and we will, and we clear launch-related email within twelve months of launch

Third-party services

Google Sign-In & Google Drive — your use of Google services is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

Changes

If we update this policy, we'll change the date at the top. Continued use of the app means you accept the update.
